Our free educational events help educate the communities in the south and southwest of Puerto Rico, in the Tampa Bay area, and in Central Florida about the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment programs and cancer research in the fight against cancer.

Events in the Community
¡Salud! Serie de charlas
¡Salud! Serie de charlas are educational sessions focused on reducing cancer health outcomes identified as priorities in the catchment area. Researchers and healthcare providers, and guest speakers discuss cancer health topics and answer questions from the audience. Topics include cancer prevention, early detection, specific types of cancer, emotional well-being, coping skills, clinical trials, and patient testimonials. Events can be held in English and/or Spanish.

Cuida Tu Salud charlas
Cuida tu Salud charlas are specially scheduled educational sessions to groups in their own setting! The community health educator discusses cancer health topics and answer questions from the audience. Topics include cancer prevention, early detection, specific types of cancer, emotional well-being, coping skills, clinical trials, among others. Events can be held in English and/or Spanish.

Hablemos de Cáncer
The Hablemos de Cáncer Educational Symposium provides cancer education and resources to the Puerto Rican community. Physicians and healthcare professionals from Puerto Rico and Florida discuss cancer prevention, screening, early detection, risk factors and cancer survivorship with the community. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to experts in the area while benefiting from cancer and health screenings. This event is held in Ponce every other year.

Latinos y el cáncer
The Latinos y el cáncer Educational Symposium provides cancer education and resources. Moffitt and Ponce physicians and healthcare professionals discuss cancer prevention, screening, early detection, risk factors and cancer survivorship with community members. This event is held at Moffitt Cancer Center every other year. It is free of cost and open to all community members.

The Bridge (El Puente)
The Bridge (El Puente) brings cancer researchers and community members together to improve understanding of cancer research and community participation. This information exchange gives researchers the opportunity to gain knowledge about outreach and community engagement strategies and educates community members how and why research is important.

Community Health Fairs
Community Health Fairs are a great opportunity to provide health education. These activities are common within communities and are usually organized by health services or provider organizations. Our team will identify community-sponsored health fairs within south and southwest of Puerto Rico, in the Tampa Bay area, and in Central Florida and participate by providing cancer health educational materials and answering questions.
